Q2 & 3

  1. You are on the right track for questions 2 and 3 but they lack appropriate visuals or screen shots to illustrate your understanding of representational issues and distribution.

Question 2; If you did some research about homeless young females to support your points with this would strengthen your response.
Re representation of gender: Examples of media information on homeless women could be included
...I've just googled "homeless young women" and found this extract from an article in The Independent....."The number of homeless women has risen by nearly 80 per cent in five years, a new report published today reveals. Tens of thousands of single women and children are being forced to live in hostels, sleep rough or rely on the goodwill of friends and family as waiting lists for council houses soar" (3 Aug 2008)

Representation of male, here you have challenged media stereotype of middle class older man being represented as respectable and law abiding. For example the BBC TV News is full of images of men in suits and in control!!!

Representation of a British City. Noir thrillers tend to represent (extract from www.filmsite.org/genres..."Classic film noir developed during and after World War II, taking advantage of the post-war ambience of anxiety, pessimism, and suspicion......". It would be useful if you were able to discuss how your film reflects the anxiety and pessimism of austerity Britain and the effect of unemployment on young people, particular a large percentage of women losing their jobs, and young people not being able to get jobs. This type of comment reflects your understanding of the representation of a political or National mood in film.

  2. Question 3: Reflects basic understanding of outlets. To strengthen more evidence of research into Warp Films and the type of films they produce, for example identifying films which reflect new British talent, and focus on the stories of ordinary young people in extraordinary circumstances. For example post clips from This is England and Dead Man's Shoes and read reviews to illustrate your reason for focusing on Warp films, or quotes from Warp Films official website.
You could also Google IMDB for info about Andrea Arnold's "Fish Tank" - BBC films helped fund this film about an alienated and troubled young girl living on a council estate in Tilbury Essex.
